First off ... "number withheld" showed up on the landline screen.

"Mr xxxxx, I'm calling from the Bank about withdrawals you've made today" (saddens me to report it was an Edinburgh accent).

"Oh yes - and which Bank is that"

"The Bank"

"How do I know it's the Bank"

"Mr xxxxx, we'd never ask you to reveal bank details over the phone"

"yes but which bank are you calling from ?"

"The Royal Bank"

"Oh really ?"

"Yes it's about payments made to Lloyds Bank"

"OK, that's two nil to me so far ... do you want to continue ?"

"Oh ... "

(dialling tone)

They're crafty - specially with the local accent.

I got the same 'fraud' scam call yesterday.

I got a call on the landline from an 0131 667 .... number, which was a scammer ... but they moved on.

Just shows you ... they can spoof local, domestic numbers too.

I'm thinking of getting rid of the landline, or having it go to answering machine all the time.

People who really want to speak will leave a message.

Scammers, and their computers, will move on.
