Very Hot topicLocal shops etc doing deliveries

We have had a number of emails from people recommending / suggesting local business which are doing deliveries of food etc.

Please note - by mentioning them here, we are not endorsing them. Also please let us all know on here of any other places and/or your experiences of these below.

The ones in quotes are direct quotes from residents.

"Welch fishmongers do home deliveries. Phone 0131 552 5883 or email welchfish@btconnect.com. Don’t think they have minimum purchase or delivery fee."

Image

"The Avenue stores on Blackford Avenue do home deliveries 0131 668 3274. No delivery fee "

"Charles Stamper home deliver fruit and veg 0131 551 3636. I understand it’s difficult to get a slot, but when you do, it’s reliable"

"Campbell’s Butchers in Bruntsfield are doing home deliveries. I think they prefer you to use their site and give then your details there, but their phone 0131 526 4444. They have a large selection"

A message from a resident about the Edinburgh Farmer's Market:
"The lady we get chicken and eggs from is doing a home delivery service now the market has shut down. Contact details are: Dawn - +447851023609

It is with a heavy heart I have to inform you that Edinburgh Farmers Market has closed for the foreseeable future. Essential Edinburgh under the advice of Edinburgh Council Resilience Committee have taken this decision.

I have been preparing for this day over the past few weeks and will be delivering in Edinburgh on Saturdays and Sundays. I propose to deliver your order to your door with an attached invoice which can be paid electronically or over the phone. The reason we are doing this is so it is a totally non contact delivery, to keep both you and me safe, we are in this together !

The items available for delivery this weekend are :

Chicken
Duck - Whole & portions
New Season Lamb
Bacon - dry cured middle & streaky
Pastrami
Pork Sausages (frozen - honey mustard, pickled pepper, smoked, apple, traditional & chunky)
Eggs
Duck Eggs
Goose Eggs
Wild Garlic
Smoked Garlic
Honey - Heather, Blossom & various infused
Lavender - dried

If you would like a delivery please send your full name, address, email & telephone number along with your order.
We will update the list weekly as we have a cattle beast being prepared and a pig ready to go and the smokers just being fired up.
We are looking at the logistics of delivering other producers products from the market but this is not in place as yet.
Take care, eat well & keep well Dawn x Brewsters"

An organisation called Doorstep Market contacted us but we have no experience of them. Their website strapline is "Your local groceries delivered. Find local helpers to get groceries delivered to your doorstep." Might be useful to hear from someone who has.

To add to your list of shops, can I suggest the Grange newsletter includes Marchmont Hardware. When visiting the shop yesterday, I photographed their information sheets which explain what they are doing for the community and attach this for your reference.

Regarding home deliveries I have a milkman from Wiseman dairies who supplies me with fresh milk and eggs three times a week. I do not know if he is currently in a position to take additional orders as he comes late at night and I do not get an opportunity to speak to him. His name is Les Scollon and his office phone number is 01875 821433. I thought this information may be of use to you.

Changes to delivery office hours
Royal Mail says that to protect the health and safety of its staff and the general public, from Monday, April 6, it is changing the opening times of Customer Services Points in local delivery offices.
Largest locations will be open between 7am-11am.
All other Customer Service Points will be open between 7am-9am.
All will be closed on Wednesday and Sunday.
To support the Government’s advice to stay at home and avoid non-essential journeys, Royal Mail urges customers to only visit Customer Service Points where absolutely necessary.
Items can also be redelivered for free.

Please add your own updates on here if you can ... e.g.

... if so-and-so aren’t taking new customers

... if so-and-so’s phone is just ringing out

... if you have other examples

It’s not efficient for me always to be the one putting them up. I can still do it but there may be a delay.

Although they don't do deliveries, there are a couple of local shops that are offering a sort of basic click-and-collect service. The idea is that you phone or email your order, and then visit the shop at a certain time to pick it up. You don't actually go into the shop. You wait outside and the staff bring the order out to you. This won't help people who are confined to their homes, but it does minimise contact with staff and other customers.

The hardware shop at 160 Morningside Road (Houseproud of Morningside) have this service. As does the New Leaf Co-op (wholefoods). New leaf have a minimum order value of £15. They say they hope to start a local delivery service soon.

Message from Jim Ramsay of the Avenue Store :

Can we remind residents in the Grange area that Avenue Store deliver without charge Mon - Fri.
Phone 01316683274 (but be patient) 9-12 for an untimed delivery same day. Minimum order is only £10 and payment must be by card. Most food requirements are available. Registered customers can email their orders. Contact Mark for more detail.

Not so local but still delivering to EH9 : Crombies - Broughton Street

"Dear Customers,
Firstly a big thank you to all of you that have made use of our services over the past few weeks. Your understanding and patience for our new systems and policies is greatly appreciated.

A few updates for those who have not noticed or have not been to the shop
.
Opening hours:- Due to the lockdown and staffing levels, we revised our opening hours which allows us to get through the work and fulfil the delivery orders without stretching the hours worked by the staff.

Sunday & Monday: CLOSED
Tuesday – Friday: 8am – 2pm
Saturday: 8am – 4pm

Home deliveries: our delivery service has been used extensively by those self isolating or not wishing to come into the shop as normal. We are delivering on a Wednesday throughout the City of Edinburgh within postcodes EH1-EH17, on a Thursday we cover the centre and East of Edinburgh, on a Friday we cover the centre and West of Edinburgh and cover the entire city on a Saturday. Orders and prepaid and we observe strict no contact policies during deliveries and sanitise after each delivery. To place an order call 0131.557.0111.

Shop Collection: for those wishing to spend the minimum time in the shop we have a collection service. Place your order on 0131.557.0111, prepay and collect in the shop. You will have to wait outside in any queue before getting in but when you are next in the queue we will get your order and you can just leave.

Normal trading: We have a pretty full normal counter with a few exceptions but can probably supply most items on request. Although our opening hours have been reduced, you can still come in and browse the counter as normal. When at the checkout we ask you to keep as much distance as is practical and where possible pay by card. We only allow 4 people in the shop at a time and ask you to observe the waiting points, keeping at least 2 meters from other customers. We have a few new items for sale which should help you through this time, like loaves of bread, large milks, packs of vegetables and a £20 fruit & vegetable box (actually 2 boxes) which have proved very popular indeed. (picture below)

Whichever method you use you can be assured we have our customers and staff best interests at heart and together we will get through the lockdown as calmly and as organised as we can.

If you have any ideas about how we could help or improve the service we offer please feel free to let us know and we will see what we can do.
Regards
Sandy Crombie"
