Normal topicLETS HAVE A FURTHER BLITZ ON PARKING POLES!

The poles carrying parking signs cause obstruction to the pavement, especially for the visually impaired and those with pushchairs or wheelchairs. They also spoil the appearance of our streets in this conservation area. We had a successful campaign three years ago and many were removed. It is now time to have a further push to remove the remaining poles.

Parking signs can be re-sited onto walls and the poles removed, but before this can be done, the Council needs to have signed permission from the owner of the wall. In most cases, the sign can be moved onto the wall behind the present pole, provided it can be at least 1 metre from the ground. If the pole is in front of a very low section of wall, it may be possible to put the sign on an adjacent section of higher wall but there must be at least one parking sign for each marked section of parking spaces.

If you would like to volunteer to have parking poles removed from your street, please ask the owners of the relevant sections of wall to sign a copy of the bottom half of the attached form and post to:-
Ruth Muir
Planning and Transport, Room 10:18,
City of Edinburgh Council
249 High Street
Edinburgh
EH1 1YJ
or phone: 0131 469 3656
(Note: permission must be given by the householder where the sign could be placed - which is not necessarily the same household as where the post is).
