Normal topicGrange Conservation Area - Help needed!

The City of Edinburgh planning department is re-writing the conservation area character appraisal documents (CACA) for all the conservation areas in Edinburgh and the Grange is to be the first. The Grange CACA is the document that is used in deciding whether or not any proposed new development is suitable for the area and should be given planning permission. The assumption is that new developments should actually enhance the conservation area. The last edition of the Grange CACA was written in 1999 and there have been a number of changes since then. On the 24th September a group of us met with Council officials to discuss this. The Council is very keen to have the opinion of residents in the area. The document can be downloaded here http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/downloads/file/1468/grange_conservation_area_character_appraisal . Please give us your views on this important document so that we can pass them on to the team. Are there sections that need to be removed from the document or new ones that should be added? What needs to be changed? Please either post your views here or email us at planning@grangeassociation.com .

With my apologies, this post replaces previous posts by Culkein and Wyvern, posts which this administrator lost irretrievably in cyberspace.

The MSc students from Edinburgh University Architectural Conservation Department have been studying the Grange. Their work has been used to help the re-writing of the Grange Conservation Area Character Appraisal (CACA). Rachel Howarth of CEC Planning Department will address the Grange Association Annual General Meeting at 7pm on Wednesday March 12th 2014 to demonstrate the students' work and update us on the CACA which is now in draft form. The draft is to be discussed at the Planning Committee on 27th February after which there will be a period of general consultation.

The AGM will be held at the Butterflies Cafe on Kilgraston Road 6.30 for 7pm start. There will be tea and coffee from 6.30. The AGM will be followed by a talk on the Astley Ainslie by Dr Brian Pentland.

The new draft Conservation Area Character Appraisal and the questionnaire to complete for the public consultation are available at http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/CACAreview . We are told that the questionnaire will continue to be available for a short while so please visit the site now and give your opinion. We are hoping that in future, the planners will be paying more attention to the CACA, so,it is important that it is as accurate and comprehensive as possible.
