O: Tom (1871 – 1884) “An African slave boy” rescued by Joseph Clark

His memorial lies behind the stone of John Reid, Registrar of the Vice Admiralty Court, Cape Town. Tom and another boy, Theo, were rescued from slavery in the Congo and brought to Scotland by Joseph Clark, a Baptist missionary. Sadly, Tom died here of bleeding from a stomach ulcer. His connection with Rosehall United Presbyterian Church (now Priestfield) remains a mystery!
